Celebrating the journey from a small church plant of 22 members in 1973 to a diverse, thriving family of God today.
On the occasion of our 50th anniversary, we look back with gratitude on God's faithfulness across the generations. Formerly known as Glencairn Alliance Church and now Rockbridge Alliance Church, ours is a story of perseverance, growth, and the constant hand of God.
As Psalm 145 says: "Each generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts." This is our story and we trust it is also a glimpse of what God will continue to do.
Glencairn Alliance Church (GAC) was planted by Woodward Avenue Alliance Church with a vision for an evangelistic community on the east side of Regina. A portable building was placed at 139 Cannon Street, and Pastor Arden Adrian was appointed to the congregation. A dedication service was held in January 1973 with just 22 members.
Pastor Wayne Kerr joined in the fall of 1975, leading GAC through tremendous growth. Church membership grew from 28 to 135 by 1990. A permanent building was constructed on Canon Street in 1977, dedicated on March 12, 1978. A children's crusade saw 550 neighbourhood children attend the final service many becoming regular attenders. Hundreds of students from Canadian Bible College and Canadian Theological Seminary participated in ministry during these years.
In 1983 two Sunday services began. In 1984, GAC planted Heritage Alliance Church, which continues to worship in Regina today.
In 1987, land was purchased on the east side of Regina to accommodate a new, larger building. Pastor Martin Sanders served as interim in 1991, followed by Pastor Brian Reynolds in April 1991, described as "a great communicator of God's Word."
Pastor Dan Pope and his wife Wendy shepherded the congregation through a challenging season. In 1994, unable to afford both the land and building, GAC chose to keep the land and sell the Cannon Street building. From 1995, the congregation met in F.W. Johnson High School while trusting God for a permanent home.
Dr. Kelvin Friebel served as interim, moving GAC from F.W. Johnson to the chapel at Canadian Bible College, enriching the congregation with deep theological preaching. Pastor Tom McCullagh then accepted the call as full-time lead pastor in 2003. When CBC/CTS relocated to Calgary, GAC returned to 139 Cannon Street, welcomed by the Christian Reformed Church a season of deepened community relationships with one another and with God.
Pastor John McGregor joined the Glencairn family in 2009, serving with the fullness of God's Spirit and a passion to reach people with the Gospel. Though he retired in 2016, ministry remains his life calling through John McGregor Ministries, an online evangelism ministry.
Pastor Barry Bruce was installed as Lead Pastor in April 2016. This new chapter was marked not only by new leadership but by the merging of the Regina Filipino Alliance Church (RFAC) with GAC under the guidance of Dr. Michael Tymchak and with Pastor Barry's pastoral care. Rockbridge became an even more beautifully diverse family. Pastor Barry faithfully served until his retirement in 2024.
After many congregational meetings and with the financial support of the Canadian Midwest District under Superintendent Rev. Al Fedorak, the leadership purchased the Victory Church building at 1815 Rupert Street. With a new location came a new name: Rockbridge Alliance Church celebrated their first Sunday on June 30th, 2019.
Rockbridge celebrated its 50th Anniversary on February 1819, 2023, with a theme of "Walking in Faith." Guest speakers included Rev. Tom McCullagh and Pastor John McGregor. The weekend included a banquet, worship led by Warren Mills and Team, testimonies, and a Sunday morning celebration service.
As Pastor Barry Bruce wrote: "May those who gather on our 75th anniversary remember how we as a generation commended God's splendor and glorious works to the next generation."
Under the leadership of Pastor Jordan Tjart, Rockbridge continues as God's people representing many nations and cultures, gathered every Sunday at 10:30 AM at 1815 Rupert Street. We look forward with expectation to what God has in store for the years ahead.
Meet Our Team TodayOn February 18 & 19, 2023, Rockbridge gathered to celebrate 50 years of God's faithfulness. Watch the messages, worship, and special moments from the anniversary weekend.
Fifty years and counting. We are grateful for every person who has walked through our doors, every pastor who served faithfully, every volunteer, and every generation that commended God's goodness to the next. His faithfulness endures forever.
